Artist Statement 2016

My family background in traditional miniature painting and deep interest in “distorted history” reinforce my current body of work.

Visually, I try to produce richly embellished artworks using the same formal methods of miniature painting that had been practiced in the Mughal court ateliers. However, conceptually I am interested in biased beliefs of today’s society. Through my art practice I raise questions about society’s preconceived understanding of history—what and whom we worship.

I combine elements of classical miniatures and contemporary imagery in ways that create ironic meanings. At first sight, the result is hilarious but on a deeper level, I hope to create for the viewers a sense of maneuvering through the past and present towards the future in search of truth.

According to my traditional family background and my deep interest in “unfaithful History” reinforced current body of work. Generally, deliberations are centered to produce equally high embellished art, with the help of all those formal method, which was done in Mughal atelier. However, my conceptual concerns encompass on social belief of society. I raise question through my art practices, on society’s preconceived understanding towards History whom we worship like divine orders, in our lives.

While formal concerns, of making an image, adopting the behavior, like how history makers utilized to make another history whilst having the biased approach, creating Irony through overlapping of the images taken by History of Miniature paintings, rearrangement of objects/figures and design. The appropriate elements of the historical image in such a way that glimpse in first sight a Hilarious image, but simultaneously it provokes a sense of realization towards past

Present and future.
